“In our world of big names, curiously, our true heroes tend to be anonymous. In this life of illusion and quasi-illusion, the person of solid virtues who can be admired for something more substantial than his well-knownness often proves to be the unsung hero: the teacher, the nurse, the mother, the honest cop, the hard worker at lonely, underpaid, unglamorous, unpublicized jobs.” —Daniel J. Boorstin
We live in a culture that prizes celebrity, while often failing to recognize and value true virtue. Unsung exists to tell the untold stories of unsung heroes. By upholding the inherent dignity and uniqueness of every person’s story, Unsung serves to inform people of individual needs and inspire them to action.
I’m sure we’ve all seen the beer commercials about “The Most Interesting Man in the World”. But what if the person ringing you up at the grocery store is, in fact, “the most interesting person in the world”, and you don’t take one second to look up from your phone and acknowledge them as a human being? What if the ordinary people you meet have extraordinary journeys to recount, stories that would top those of the most legendary icons of modern-day ad campaigns? Or what if the most interesting chapter in your life is about to begin, simply by asking the stranger next to you, “So, what’s your story?”
“All men can be criminals, if tempted; all men can be heroes, if inspired.” —G.K. Chesterton
